"Hyoyeon is a person who changed my perception on idols. She’s working hard despite her ridiculous schedule. It made of think, ‘They are SNSD bc they work so hard’ [Idk how to word it, but basically saying she works hard/lives up to their name..]. Not only is she good at dancing, but she really is respectful to her seniors and lives up the atmosphere on the set."

Warning; This is some angsty HyoHyuk. Just a heads up.

Hyukjae!

I’m going out, I have to go to the hospital for a check up.

Meet you for dinner at six?

See you then!

-Hyoyeon x

Hyoyeon pinned the note to the fridge door. Hyukjae would see it when he came home from practice. Hyoyeon pulled on her jacket and made her way to the hospital. She tried to keep her thoughts light, but a dark shadow of worry coiled in her stomach.

“It’ll be OK Hyoyeon, calm down. They already said it was nothing major,” she told herself. “It’ll be fine.”

I heard there was a secret chord

That David played and it pleased the Lord

But you don’t really care for music do you?

Hyoyeon arrived at the hospital. She greeted Doctor Lee. He knew how tense she was. Hell, she’d been tense since her last visit.

“Shall we begin?” he asked.

Well it goes like this; the fourth: the fifth

the minor fall, and the major lift,

the baffled king composing, Hallelujah.

Nearly two hours later, Doctor Lee came back into Hyoyeon.

She jumps up, nervous about the results.

Doctor Lee sighs. He hates this part of his job; having to tell the patients.

“I’m sorry Miss Kim. It’s bad news.”

Hyoyeon is diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah.

Hyukjae arrives at the reataurant late. He immediately spots Hyoyeon. She’s as beautiful as ever, but he can instantly tell something’s wrong.

He runs up to her. She tells she needs to talk to him urgently. They leave the restaurant and walk down the street. They find a bench in the deserted park and sit down in the moonlight.

Your faith was strong, but you need proof.

You saw her bathing on the roof.

Her beauty, and the moonlight, overthrew you.

“What is it Hyo?” Hyukjae asks.

Hyoyeon looks him in the eye and tells him that she has terminal cancer, and she only has three months left to live. Its one of the hardest things she’s ever done - ever. She begins to cry and she falls into Hyukjae’s arms.

Hyukjae wraps his arms around her, stunned. He loves Hyoyeon, and has for the last few years. She loves him back. She is the star of his world, moon of his life.

He stands up.

She tied you to her kitchen chair,

She broke your throne and she cut your hair,

And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah.

“Please, Hyo, no, you can’t!” he yells. “I won’t let you!”

Hyoyeon stands up, and smiles sadly. “I’m not gone yet,” she manages to whisper. “Three months.”

“Hallelujah,” Hyukjae says bitterly, wrapping his arms once more around Hyoyeon, his eyes tearing up, his heart breaking.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah,

Hallelujah, Hallelujah.

The weeks fly by. Hyukjae and Hyoyeon spend every waking moment together, knowing their time is short.

Soon -too soon - Hyoyeon has to go into hospital. She won’t be coming home again, she’ll live out her days in hospital. Hyukaje visits her everyday.

Baby I’ve been here before

I know this room I’ve walked this floor

I used to live alone before I knew you.

Hyukjae walks around their house. It was originally his house, but Hyoyeon moved in a few years ago. It’s hers as much as it’s his.

When she passes on - it’s only a matter of time - he’ll sell the house. It will have too many painful memories of her, of them, of their love. He has everything packed into boxes already, all his stuff, all of her things, all of their possessions. He won’t be able to ever look at them, but he will keep them forever.

He walks alone around the empty house, remembering happy times and sighs. They had so many plans and dreams for their future. So many plans that they’ll never be able to do.

I’ve seen your flag on the marble arch,

Love is not a victory march,

It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah.

As Hyukjae enters their bedroom, he sits on the bed and opens the drawer on the bedside table. He takes out a velvet box and opens it. Inside is a diamond ring - an engagement ring. He was going to give it to her on her birthday, to propose to her, but he knows now he never will. It would be like rubbing salt on an open wound - they’ll never have the time to marry, bext pretend they had never considered it.

Hyukjae stands. He had better be going to the hospital now. Recently Hyoyon has been becoming distant, talking less. She has good reason, but Hyukjae is determind to keep their love burning - even after she…moves on. He sighs deeply, and puts the ring back in the drawer.

“Strange” he says aloud to himself. “How much you fight for love.”

Hallelujah, Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah.

There was a time you’d let me know,

What’s real and going o below,

but now you never show it to me, do you?

She hates it, in the hospital. She loved to dance, she used to dance everyday, but now she’s confined to a single bed within four walls.

Hyukjae sits beside her. She barely says anything, barely acknowledges his presence.

“Please Hyo,” he says. “Say something.”

Hyoyeon looks at him. “What is there to say?”

Hyukjae shakes his head. “I don’t know. But please Hyo, just talk to me! Soon you won’t be able to!”

Hyoyeon looks as if she’s been slapped. “I’m sorry,” Hyukjae says, taking her hand and bringing it to his lips. “It’s …it’s hard for me too.”

Hyoyeon nods.

Remember when I moved in you,

The Holy dove was moving too,

And every breath we drew was Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah,

Hallelujah, Hallelujah.

“One of the things I miss most,” Hyoyeon says. “Is dancing. I used to dance nearly everyday, it was when I really let loose. I spent so long training, hoping to become famous dancer, but know, all that hard work is for nothing.”

The tears are streaming down her eyes. Hyukjae clutches her hand and leans forward, lightly kissing away the tears on her cheeks.

“Whatever happens after,” she says. “I just hope I’ll be able to dance again.” Hyoyeon looks up at Hyukjae. “I’ll miss you,” she whispers.

Hyukjae gently takes her head in her hand. She feels so skinny and fragile now. There can’t be much longer left. He leans in and kisses her.

When it happens, Hyukjae thinks he’s ready, but he’s not.

Well maybe there’s a God above

But all I’ve ever learned from love

Is how to shoot somebody, who outdrew you.

He’s sleeping in the chair beside her bed, when he hears a beeping noise he opens his eyes.

Suddenly the room is flooded with doctors and nurses, and he’s being pushed out of the room. He steals a last glance at his beloved Hyoyeon.

He’s pushed outside and the door closes.

He bangs on the door ith his fists. He has to see her once more, before she….

Inside a part of him knows it’s too late, she’s gone. His heart breaks into a million pieces, and those pieces break into a million pieces.

“Hyo!” he yells. “Don’t you leave me! Please! I can’t…I can’t live without you! Please! Hyoyeon!” he yells. He falls to his knees and looks to the sky. “I don’t know if there’s a God up there,” he says, tears running down his face. “But if there is, please, don’t take her away from me!”

Unfortunately, Hyukjae’s prayer isn’t answered.

It’s not a cry that you hear at night

It’s not somebody who’s seen the light

It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah.

Hyukjae tosses and turns in his bed. Their bed. He decided not to sell their house. He couldn’t bear to.

The sheets still smell of her.

He’s a wreck, spending his time wandering around, touching her things, mourning his love.

It’s worse at night.

He lies there, and remembers how full of life she was, how she’d kiss him when he’s come home, how she used to make him dinner every evening…

He begins to cry, heavy, tearless sobs that wrack his whole body.

He hears a clatter and sit’s up.

Across the room, on a shelf, a framed picture has fallen. It had no reason, to fall, the windows and doors were closed, nothing pushed against it.

Hyukjae stands and walks over to it. He picks it up and looks at it.

It’s a picture of him and Hyoyeon. He remembered it being taken, they had been dancing at a party, when their friend had snapped a picture of them.

Dancing.

He remembers what Hyoyeon said, how she missed her dancing.

Maybe, wherever she is, she’s able to dance now. Maybe she’s not in pain anymore, maybe she’s in a better place.

The thought makes the tears fall from Hyukjae’s eyes again, but it gives im some comfort.

He still misses her, but hopefully her suffering has ended.

Whereever she is, she may be able to dance.

And to that thought, Hyukjae says;

“Hallelujah.”

Hallelujah, Hallelujah,

Hallelujah, Hallelujah,

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah,

Hallelujah.
